Today's date is supposed to be really "special". It's the 10/10/10, a unique date, and for some it will no doubt be very lucky. So lots of people have chosen today to get married or organise a special event and for those people whose birthday falls today, WOW, it just has to be really great.
For our foundation, today is really special, because when I went to collect the post, there was an envelope from Paris! I was quite excited, because I was hoping to receive something from France, but the A4-sized envelope was very flat and I could not imagine that it would contain anything more than a couple of sheets of paper. I was literally trembling with anticipation as I ran the knife along the edge, not daring to hope too much. Then I took the contents out and there was a royal blue vest-type cotton shirt autographed by Brigitte Bardot! There was also a most beautiful photograph of Madame Bardot with a simple message in black texter pen, "with love, Brigitte Bardot".
The first thing I did was phone my daughter in Germany to share with her this wonderful news, then I rang a good friend and was about to call a few more people when my husband mumbled something about "our phone bill goes through the roof each time you get another "shirt" for the auction!!". He is right, that's exactly what happens and I make no apologies for my irrepressible desire to share special moments with the special people in my life, and today is a special day!!
So what is so special about a "shirt off the back of" Brigitte Bardot? Simply put, it is a very prestigious item that will be added to the other autographed "shirts off the backs" of celebrities that I have been collecting all year and will auction for children in need. But more than that, it is an exercise in "sharing" that Madame Bardot has entered into. Although she has her own foundation that fights for the rights and dignity of animals, worldwide, she is nevertheless prepared to "share" her special name and contribute towards our foundation's fight for the rights and dignity of children worldwide.

Brigitte Bardot became famous in that fabulous decade, the 60s and like other iconic figures, her name is legend. After all the years at the forefront of the world of entertainment, she could have gone on to live her life without a care in the world, but instead, she has chosen to dedicate herself and work very hard to protect the rights of animals to be treated humanely.
Well done Brigitte, the charismatic, talented, woman whose beauty is much more than skin deep. Thank you for sharing your love for all the vulnerable creatures of our world, which also includes its children. Thank you for giving the "shirt off your back" for them!

Shawne Fielding is President of Kids With A Cause-Europe.
We are very fortunate to have this dynamic, generous lady on board and in this blog we want to pay homage to her and thank her for all she does for the foundation.
Shawne is currently working on all sorts of fundraising activities and is using all her contacts and arm-twisting powers not only to raise funds for the foundation's projects, but also to get KWAC-E known everywhere.
Shawne doesn't hesitate to step out onto the golf course no matter what the weather and she does this with all the energy and enthusiasm of the Texas gal that she is!
She recently landed a generous donation from a sponsor of a golf event thanks to her connection with the ASGI (Association Suisse des Golfeurs Indépendants). (http://www.asgi.ch/).
Our President has recently managed to "twist" another arm for the foundation and will be hosting the
Rive Gauche Halloween Party on Saturday October 30th 2010, in Zurich .
In exchange for her presece, our foundation will receive a donation.
We call this "Having fun, doing good"!
